Why collect portraits of time?
I was in my little antique shop local favorite, the other day and came across a basket full of old vintage portraits. I have recently done much research on my family geaneology past, so that the phots caught my attention. I was surprised to see the photos go for about $ 6 each! This leads me to believe that there are collectors out there that collect these pictures and I wondered why? I love the look of days long gone ... is that the other reasons to collect them?
Why collect bottle caps, figurines of elephants, baseball cards and more. Startsi and the person who maintains a collection has not to ask "why?" If a person has an interest in these articles, that's it for this reason that he or she needs to start collection. You can watch all your portrait photos and reflect on twenty cents or you paid for most of them. It can make you wonder what makes these photos in the antique store value of six dollars. You see, if someone just wants a picture, now a days, it may just make a line of image search and find almost every type of vintage photograph from the first part of the nineteenth century. But to a collector, be able to really hold and have an impression that was made on the same time, the photo was taken is a very different experience. Part of this experience lies in the rarity of the actual photo printing. For most of those in the basket, they are probably the only printed as in life. Imagine that. This shot of the lady in swimsuit funny holding a beach ball is probably long dead. The beach she stood on is probably still there, but the historical period in which the photo was taken is irretrievably gone. You could organize a revival, but this moment of time captured on the old impression never happen again. That's what makes the impression is worth the one who collects such things.
