Dress White

How to stop a red and white dress going pink in the washing machine?

I have a red dress with a white band around the bottom. It's new and never been washed before, but I've spilt a drink across it. How can I wash it to make sure that red colour doesn't bleed into the white band? Do I need to hand wash it? If not, what temperature etc? Ta xox

Warm water, lots of soap! If it still comes out of the washer with some bleeding, apply a spray stain treatment to the place it's bled and throw it right back in the washer with lots of soap. You want to wash it until all the red dye that's not fixed to the fibers is gone, so the warm water will help move this process along, and the soap will capture the dye particles and not let them re-attach to the dress. They will instead float away with the rinse water, encased in little soap particles.

The most important thing is to not let it dry until all the colors are in the proper location.
