what are examples of mother/daughter relationships in literature?
I need to write an essay on mother daughter relationships in fiction literature, and I need examples of some in detail.
The Scarlet letter by Nathanial Hawthorne, Hester and Pearl have a very complex relationship. Hester loves Pearl dearly but thinks she might have been better off if she hadn't been born. She loves her wild and couragous spirit but at moments is terrified that Pearl has the devil in her.Pearl is often taunting in her treatment of her mother but with only flashes of tenderness, and seems to read into her mothers soul all of her guilt and shame.
What is most interesting about it is that this insightful work was written over 150 years agoo - and by a man.
