Risque Old
I need ideas for a funny or risqué cabaret or vaudeville-type song to perform?
Preferably, a old fashioned kind of song would be good. Something of a musical (but not something of the musical Cabaret as standard, Chicago, etc. ... he really needs to be something weird and obscure). Things I like is like "Everybody's Girl" from Steel Pier, "Do not Tell Mama" from Cabaret and "class" of Chicago .... any good ideas?
Hmmm .. I can see what is happening take a little more of my stock answer songs to sing. Back when I was young ... about 55 years ago and the street on my way across Europe, I spent almost a year in Berlin, Hamburg, Paris and Amsterdam playing in cabarets many that existed in the late 1970s so I kind to feel what you want. First .. ripe fruits .. Have you looked at the songs of La Cage aux Folles and producers? Songs like "A little mascara "are timeless. I remember an interpreter .. an Englishman who lived in London and was one of the best on the circuit who made the issue of closing in any show (s) he was .. WHAT A man and a man while performing the song (s) he would remove makeup and go to the Queen camp full of guys from the street .. it was very well done and he had a certain pathos that I have never seen in another piece slide. With songs .. well .. You can camp just about anything UP .. this is where the performer you have to come forward. I like 2 of the songs of Billy Elliot .. SOLIDARITY and the letter, but there are other good songs for this show. Songs like AS IT NEEDS ME VAS SE Oliver and my friend The Young Frankenstein would work well. Just use your imagination ... Remember .. The lyrics are what sell the song .. not the melody. Good Luck
