Old Otto

Can i enhance the bass of my old Hi-Fi speaker by drilling a vacuum hole?

Because the box is totally sealed, and i wonder can the bass be more powerful if i drill a vacuum hole like modern speakers have... By the way, my Hi-Fi is a 1970s Sanyo OTTO, 10inch woofer with a squawker and horn tweeter... I hook it up with a DVD player and it sounds awesome... Just wanna enhance the bass more...

Chances are that since Sanyo also owned Fisher by that time your OTTO is probably a nice speaker as were some Fishers (before the brand started taking a dive) and they probably did have a lot of Fisher in them.

Lifting them as has ben suggested will help a lot, perhaps putting them on hollow boxes will give some extra resonance and many hi-fi enthusiasts actually STACK multiple speakers on their sides woofer to tweeter (opposing directions in other words) to increase that effect in sympathy to each other...

That's cool with Pioneer HPM-100s, but a bit esoteric. If you can't get better bass response I would move them to the rear and find 12" or 15" AND a more powerful amp for all four or run the present as a rear slave.

Stimulate the economy and have a looney ol' time messing with all that ;-)
