Format Negatives
I want to get into large format photography 4x5 what do I need?
I have a 4x5 large format camera and 2 lenses. What else do I need to have for this large format photography? What do I need to make prints enlarger or contact printing? Do I need an exposure meter? What is best lens for portraits? What can I do with an f5.6, 150mm lens? any how to web pages? Can I use a old fashioned glass plate negative in a modern 4x5 view camera. Any info on any question will be helpful!
Good for you. Since you already have your camera and lenses, the only thing you really need is an exposure meter. If you want to print yourself, which is most likely be the case, it sounds like you need a complete darkroom setup as well. This includes the items to develop the film, and the items to make the print. This is another story, but you can get everything you need for around $400 easily. I could offer more advice, if you'd like.
That 150mm lens is about average on a 4x5". That is, it's a "normal lens." Not the optimal focal length for headshots, but still, it's a good working range. The better lens for this type of work is about 210mm-250mm
I have never used glass plates, but I've seen others who have. You can get good examples by looking at Flickr.
