Have you adopted a young child or baby publicly through the CAS?
I have heard that it is close to impossible to get placed with a 'healthy' newborn when dealing with the Children's Aide Society. But what does that mean, that it is more likely to get placed with a baby if he or she has special needs? Or are they both not very likely?
I'm looking into adopting a child with mild special needs. I'm just curious if being placed with an infant with special needs is also few and far between? Thanks so much... I'm in Canada if that matters..

I adopted a sibling group from Ottawa CAS. My daughter and son came to us at ages 18 months and 3 years old.
There are babies in care. Some go straight from the hospital and into care as soon as they are born (those born with addictive substances in their bodies). Here is the deal with the babies in foster care: The first job of CAS is to keep families together, so a baby's mother is given the chance to meet the criteria to get her child back. Often these babies are in care for a full year before mom either gets them back or the courts decide that the baby should be Crown Ward No Access. At this point the baby is a year or more old and has been in the care of the same foster family for the duration of her life so far. The foster family is usually given the first option of adopting the baby. Many do. The only infant adoptions I have heard of at Ottawa CAS were done by the child's original foster parents. Here in Ontario, the kids that have the most need are boys ages 3 to 8. Apparently there is a plethora of little boys waiting for permanent placement.
