Is it possible for me to live in a castle?
Do I need multi millions, 100 million's etc to live in a castle?
What kind of income would I need to buy and live in a castle ( old one) yet have the inside, part of it refurbished to have modern immenities?
In the recent UK parliamentary freeloading scandal, one of the more spectacular (ab)uses of the fund was by an MP who tried to be reimbursed for having his moat cleaned. That suggests that he, at least, lives in a castle.
I don't have a good sense of how much a castle costs; it probably varies according to size and age (I bet there's a sweet spot, where a castle is old enough to be historic, but recent enough not to be a ruin). If I had to guess, I'd say it was on the order of ten million (USD); not less than one million, and not more than one hundred million.
Once you have your castle, getting it remodeled is probably the easiest part, financially. It's hard to imagine spending more than about million dollars on setting up a basic apartment inside. But if your castle is a historic landmark (and, let's face it, a *castle* is probably going to be), getting approval from the local historical preservation society (or zoning board, or what have you) will be a tall order.
