Beautiful Little
Finding beautiful little town in PA?
Planning on taking a trip across Pennsylvania to find a beautiful little town to live in. Must have lots of mature trees. A main street similar to Disneyworld. Low crime. Family friendly neighborhood. Lots of places to walk to. Any suggestions?
Ive lived in PA over 5 years now and visited many areas in the state and I used to live in State College, the famous "Happy Valley", home of Penn State University. I currently reside in Irwin, PA which is located in Western PA just off the Penn. Turnpike (I-76) about 27 mi SE of Pittsburgh, between Pittsburgh and Greensburg, PA in the Laurel Highlands Region of Western PA. We have some great small towns and cities too and I'd be happy to give you some suggestions of places to visit. Here are a few of my favorite towns (none of which are actually "towns" but are called "boroughs", except Bloomsburg, PA). Most if not all of these should fit your criteria. They are in random numerical order but grouped loosely by region:
1. State College, PA and Centre County, PA (highly recommended)
2. Bellefonte, PA
3. Boalsburg, PA
4. Lemont, PA
5. Bloomsburg, PA (one of only two "towns" in PA, the other being McCandless)
6. Danville, PA
7. Lancaster, PA and Lancaster Co, PA- aka Amish Country- "a must see"
8. Gettysburg, PA- Civil War history, scenery, Main St., also a "must see"
9. Lebanon, PA
10. York, PA
11. Scranton, PA- not really a "small town" but a great small city and also the setting of TV's "The Office"
12. Kingston, PA
13. most of NE PA, especially along the Susquehanna river and US Route 6.
14. Jersey Shore and Woolrich, PA (tree-lined Main St as you described)
15. Grove City, PA
16. Edinboro, PA
17. Erie, PA- many great small towns near to this small city on Lake Erie
18. North East, PA
19. Indiana, PA
20. Blairsville, PA
21. Donegal, PA
22. Somerset, PA
23. Bedford, PA
24. Ligonier, PA
25. Connellsville, PA
26. Irwin, PA
27. Greensburg, PA
28. Springdale, PA
29. Ambridge, PA
Various towns along the beautiful, scenic Yough River Rail Trail located in the Laurel Highlands Region and connecting W PA with MD and Washington, DC, i.e. Boston, West Newton, Dawson, Connellsville, Ohiopyle, Confluence, etc.
Also be sure to visit Frank Lloyd Wright's masterpiece Fallingwater in Mill Run, PA which is located near the trail and Connellsville, PA.
30. Here are a few of my favorite Pittsburgh local/Allegheny County neighbourhoods:
Oakmont, Sewickley, Fox Chapel, Aspinwall, Verona, Ben Avon, Avalon, Bloomfield, Squirrel Hill, Point Breeze, Oakland, Shadyside, Mt. Washington, Observatory Hill, Southside, Homestead, Mt. Lebanon, Pleasant Hills, South Hills, Wexford, Cranberry Township, North Hills, Forest Hills, Churchill, McMurray, Robinson, and Crafton
I have not visited much of Phila area and Delaware Valley, PA but I hear Bucks County is nice. Lehigh Valley area is nice also.
I think you'll find PA a place of friendly hometown folks, beautiful scenery and quaint, old-fashioned towns full of history and charm as well as vibrant, modern cities with interesting attractions and events year round.
